Systeme.io Email Automation: How to Set It Up Without Screwing It Up

You captured a lead. Congrats. Now what? If you're not sending emails automatically, you're burning that lead faster than you got it.

Let’s walk through how to set up Systeme.io email automations that actually work.

What You Need Before Starting

  • At least one tag (e.g. "lead", "ebook-optin")

  • A campaign (your email sequence)

  • A funnel or form where the lead enters

That’s your stack.

Step 1: Build the Campaign First

Campaign = drip sequence. Like:

  • Day 0: Welcome email

  • Day 1: Value piece

  • Day 3: Soft CTA

  • Day 5: Offer pitch

In Systeme.io:
Emails → Campaigns → Create new

Write your emails. Set the delays (in hours or days).

Step 2: Trigger Automation from a Funnel

Open your funnel → click the opt-in step → Automation Rules

  • Trigger: Form Submitted

  • Action: Subscribe to campaign + (optional) add tag

Boom. It’s wired.

Now when someone opts in, your sequence fires — no Zapier, no duct tape.

Step 3: Monitor Engagement

Go to Contacts → Your lead → Emails tab
You’ll see:

  • Delivered

  • Opened

  • Clicked

  • Sequence progress

If opens suck, rewrite the subject. If clicks suck, rework the CTA or offer.

Smart Touch: Use Tags to Branch the Flow

Want to separate buyers from lurkers?

Add an automation rule:

  • Trigger: Product Purchased

  • Action: Remove “lead” tagAdd “customer” tag

Then exclude “customer” from promo campaigns. Treat them better.
